Internet Bandwidth Service Providers, Operators and Telco’s now will have the opportunity to offer more services resulting in higher revenue over their existing networks.

One of our key goals was to simplify installation and support that exist with current EoC technology. We feel we have begun this process.

Ethernet over Coax Headend

The Ethernet over Coax headend provides an IP network leveraging existing coaxial cable infrastructure to reduce greatly deployment cost and installation time. The Ethernet over Coax headend, as the name suggests, acts as a bridge between Ethernet and coaxial cable RF channel networks and is located at the headend side of the coaxial cable plant. The Ethernet networks of the EoC HE are on the Internet side of the network. Each EoC HE implements the coaxial network backbone over two RF channels. Each RF channel provides up to 175 Mbps aggregate MAC layer throughput with the current software (using the field proven MoCA 1.1 PHY layer) and is software upgradable to provide 400 Mbps aggregate MAC layer throughput (MoCA 2.0 PHY layer). Up to two EoC HE can be used per coaxial cable for aggregate throughput of up to 1.6 Gbps per coax using the MoCA 2.0 PHY layer.

Each channel of the EoC HE supports up to 64 customer premise equipment nodes (CPE). Each CPE is a bridge between the coaxial and Ethernet networks where the Ethernet network is on the end user dies of the network. Up to 256 CPE are supported per coaxial cable.

The EoC network supports 802.1q VLANs. Consequently, end user network traffic can be managed and isolated to authorized parts of the network.

The EoC network supports IP multicast filtering where group membership is managed using IGMP and IGMP snooping. This enables the implementation of IP multicast video, and other multicast services, while filtering out multicast traffic on part of the network without group members, saving network endpoints from wasting resources in dealing with unwanted multicast packets.

EoC HE contains a remotely manageable bidirectional CATV amplifier.

The low latency and high throughput of the EoC system inherited in its MoCA DNA supports the implementation of multicast IPTV, VoD, VoIP among other services.

Ethernet over Coax Customer Premise Equipment

Ethernet over Coax Customer Premise Equipment provides end user access to the EoC network backbone provided by Ethernet over Coax headends (EoC HEs) by bridging between end user side Ethernet networks and EoC networks on the coax.

EoC HEs provide up to four EoC channels on the coax. Currently, each EoC channel provides aggregate MAC throughput of up to 175 Mbps (MoCA 1.1 PHY mode), and is software upgradable to provide up to 400 Mbps MAC throughput (MoCA 2.0 PHY mode). An EoC CPE automatically joins an EoC channel without manual intervention or configuration by the operator, reducing the cost and time of installation.

EoC CPEs come in two flavors: 4-port Ethernet CPE and 2-port 10/100/1000 Ethernet CPE. The Ethernet ports of each CPE can belong to an aggregate of up to 1024 VLANs. Optionally, one Ethernet port of an EoC CPE supports Power Over Ethernet (POE). The Ethernet switch of each CPE provides loop detection an mitigation.

EoC CPE supports IGMP Snooping to provide IP multicast filtering so the IP multicast packets are transmitted only on the Ethernet ports that have joined those IP multicast groups. This saves network and CPU bandwidth of devices on network segments that have not joined those IP multicast groups. This feature allows efficient implementation of multicast IPTV.

The low latency and high throughput of the EoC system inherited in its MoCA DNA supports the implementation of multicast IPTV, VoD, VoIP among other services.

MDS Global Technologies Announces Participation at 2015 Convergence India

Ethernet Over Coax Head End (HE):
The Ethernet over Coax headend provides an IP network leveraging existing coaxial cable infrastructure to reduce greatly deployment cost and installation time. Ethernet over Coax CPE (CPE):
The Ethernet over Coax Customer Premise Equipment provides end user access to the EoC network backbone delivered by Ethernet over Coax headends (EoC HEs) by bridging end user side Ethernet networks and EoC networks on the coax.
EoC CPEs are available in two flavors:

  •     4-port Ethernet CPE
  •     2-port Ethernet CPE
     

MDS Global has partnered with the engineering experts at VVDN Technologies, a Gurgaon-based design and manufacturing company, in its EoC solutions. Under the agreement, VVDN will manufacture MDS Global’s patented EoC Headends (HE) and EoC Customer Premise Equipment (CPE).

ViXS Launches Ethernet-over-Coax (EoC) Chips

Toronto, Canada, December 02, 2014 —ViXS Systems Inc. (TSX: VXS), a pioneer and leader in media processing solutions, today announced immediate availability of a new EoC family of chips to enable high-speed broadband access and managed IP services over new or existing coaxial networks. The XConnex 950, 1026, and 1028 EoC products help operators reduce deployment and operational costs by up to 50% through shorter installation time, reduced capital expenses, and lower maintenance costs.

The ViXS XConnex EoC solutions can be deployed today with 4 RF channels delivering 700 Mbps of payload traffic, with an option for field software upgrades to increase bandwidth up to 1.6 Gbps without any changes to existing hardware. The chipset functions are distributed as follows:

  • XConnex 950: RF component supporting EoC channels across a broad frequency spectrum from 400MHz to 1625MHz, providing excellent configuration flexibility. The 950 is used in both the EoC Head End sending appliance and the EoC CPE Receiving appliance.
  • XConnex 1028: Paired with the XConnex 950 to provide MAC and PHY for channel set up and management in the Head End appliance.
  • XConnex 1026: Paired with the XConnex 950 to provide MAC and PHY for network control in a programmable CPE appliance.
